Description:

Abstract painting is nonobjective or non-representational art that digs deep , it is more about the feelings and exploration than a planned result, it helps students free up and get in touch with self and the materials themselves, so in turn helps your confidence. Abstract art abandons more traditional painting techniques to employ a more intuitive approach to painting. Rather than the importance being on portraying a subject accurately or realistically, you are freed up to interact with your subject matter how you feel it. Expressionistic art does not necessarily abandon all representational elements but when we combine the two principles of abstract and expressionism- the results can be very surprising and totally unexpected! This a great class for artists who are interested in unlocking their own creative potential, and are interested in exploring this fascinating medium.

Schedule:

In our full class course, students will learn:

  • Study the principles of color, shape, line, texture, tone, space, value. 
  • Abstract Painting encourages discussion and curiosity about color, shape, line, and mood which can be interpreted differently by everyone. Explore how to use these principles by pushing color and texture to their ultimate visual strengths, through a variety of exciting application techniques.
  • Learn to choose the right color palette to evoke mood and emotion.
  • Explore a wide variety of brush techniques for textural features.
  • The class works for both beginners with a keen curiosity in painting and intermediate artists who are looking for fresh ideas!
  • BYO wine or sipping preference!
Requirements / Pre-Requisite:
  • Acrylic paint and the use of brushes are supplied 
  • CANVAS IS NOT INCLUDED IN YOUR COURSE FEE. 
  • Please purchase a canvas and bring it with you to class, we recommend a medium size canvas to begin with. Canvas may be purchased at your local art store (support small businesses when you can!). Please note you may need more than one canvas for a full course pkg. 
  • A limited selection of Canvas can also be purchased in our studio for $35 and upwards. If you are purchasing a canvas from our studio, payment is due at class time, we do NOT accept IOU’s so please have the exact change with you. 
  • Specialty supplies like gloss/ glazes or pouring mediums are NOT supplied , if you require these materials please bring them with you to class.
