Figure drawing is the art of sketching the human figure to capture the essence of the human body's musculature, texture, and postures. This class will help you hone observational skills and master techniques in form, value, shading, and perspective. In a few short weeks, develop confidence in your sketching.  This is a great skill to put into practice for anyone thinking about a career in the visual arts and a useful tool to have in foundation art before moving on to painting people.

 

Sample Class Format

  • Study the human figure in action and in dynamic poses and compositions, unusual angles like upshots or extreme close-ups.
  • Employ shading and value and perspective techniques
  • Learn how to depict anatomical features and drapery in clothing. 
  • Learn how to employ mood and tone
  • In this class, we will primarily work from pictures and photographs and work with charcoal, pencils, pastels, and ink.
