Our relaxing evening figure-drawing workshop gives students the perfect opportunity to put into practice the essential elements of drawing anatomy. The art of sketching the human figure enables us to gather the tools for capturing the essence of the human body's musculature, texture, and posture while honing observational skills.  Drawing requires practice to see any real progress, this class will help you develop confidence in your sketching in a few short weeks. We recommend a full course or dropping in as often as you can. This class is perfect for all levels (from total beginners to intermediate art students) and is an essential tool to have before moving on to painting.  

Schedule:

In our full class course we will:

 

  • Work from a live model (clothed), so you interact with the subject matter in a more realistic way and a more intuitive approach.
  • Learn how to depict both facial features and anatomical features: arms, legs, and hands
  • Learn how to apply sketching techniques for textures like skin, bone structure, hair, and drapery in clothing.
  • Work in charcoal, pencils, pastels, and inks
  • Study the human figure in action and in dynamic poses and compositions. 
  • Work from a variety of views: profile and 3/4 views, or non-traditional angles or views like up shots, details or from behind.
  • This class will help you hone your observational skills and master techniques in form, value, shading, and perspective.
Requirements / Pre-Requisite:
  • All paper and the use of pencils and pens will be provided.
  • We recommend bringing your own personal notebook so you can practice at home and journal your progress.
