A 4-week, self-paced photography course to explore more advanced strategies for compelling composition, and dealing with of all the lighting situations you encounter.

The course includes recorded videos, downloadable slides, and live sessions for feedback and more in-depth learning. If you already have a basic understanding of manual exposure and how to use your camera, but want to better understand lighting, composition, and editing, this class is for you. There will be 4 assignment prompts, weekly Adobe Lightroom demos, and opportunity for feedback and questions during the live sessions.

Time / Date:

This class is not yet available. I am going to launch it based on interest from students. If that’s you, send me a quick email and I’ll get this rolling!

Course Curriculum:

Week 1: Composition: Harmony, Balance, Contrast, and Focal Point

Week 2: Lighting: Reflected Light (golden hour, shade, natural reflectors)

Week 3: Composition: Bold and Experimental Perspectives

Week 4: Lighting: Direct light (backlight, harsh light and shadows)

What equipment do I need to succeed in this course?

You’ll want a basic DSLR or Mirrorless Camera. Anything that allows for manual exposure and interchangeable lenses. If you want to practice the editing demos, you’ll want to download Adobe Lightroom Classic for $10/month. You can cancel at any time.

Do I need any prior experience?

Yes. You should already have a basic ability to use your DSLR or Mirrorless camera with manual exposure. If you don’t already have that foundation, I also offer a fundamentals course! This course will really push you to think outside the box and start getting creative and experimental.

How much time should I spend on the material?

Our weekly meetings are about an hour. I suggest spending 3-5 hours per week practicing the lessons and working on the assignments.
