The Lincoln Highway is America’s first transcontinental road, linking New York City and San Francisco since 1913. Cece’s very first American Songline program was a musical journey celebrating the centennial of the Lincoln Highway, one in which she performed in all 14 states along the route. Each concert featured a variety of songs: some, like “God’s Country,” directly mentioned the highway itself, while others were either current hits of the day (“Secondhand Rose”) or enduring favorites popular in venues along the route (“Goin’ Home”). Cece even performed an original suite composed by Nolan Stoltz specifically for this program. This concert took audiences back to the birth of America’s love affair with cars, providing a virtual travelogue for a disappearing America through timeless music and insightful commentary.

American Songline programs consist of a mix of vaudeville and show tunes, patriotic favorites, operetta and light classical numbers, all dating from the early years of the 20th century. These songs range from sweet and sentimental to witty and sophisticated, and are guaranteed crowd-pleasers. Interspersed with the songs is Cece’s commentary, highlighting then-current issues reflected in the lyrics and establishing a context for modern audiences to appreciate the music to its fullest.
