Painting Portraits for Beginners

For Adults 18 yrs + over

Capture on canvas dynamic portraits of the people you love or people who inspire you in this awesome class. Learn how to depict realistic facial features, body language and explore how to manipulate your subjects to highlight unique characteristics and add your own style. Painting people can seem more complex but in this beginners course we will brief you on the basics, learn techniques and applications in painting styles and in a few short weeks you will be able to confidently paint portraits good enough to frame and hang in your own home, or give as perfect Holiday gifts! We will sketch out our subjects first before turning them into portraits on canvas and work from photos or pictures of your chosen characters. Students are welcome to bring in personal photos or photos of people that inspire them to work from. This class is great for beginners to intermediate students, or for anyone who has taken painting classes before. We recommend a full class course to see real progress and grow confidence.

Art Supplies

  • CANVAS ARE NOT INCLUDED IN YOUR COURSE FEE. Please purchase a canvas and bring it with you to class, we recommend a medium size canvas to begin with. Canvas may be purchased at your local art store (support small business when you can!). Please note you may need more than one canvas for a full course pkg.

  • A limited selection of Canvas can also be purchased in our studio for $35 and upwards. If you are purchasing a canvas from our studio, payment must be completed at class time, please note we do NOT offer IOU’s so please have the exact change with you.

  • Paper, drawing supplies and Acrylic Paint and the use of brushes are supplied.

  • Speciality supplies like gloss/ glazes, or pouring mediums and glazes are NOT supplied , if you require these materials please bring them with you to class.
